The #1000 Diamond Disc refines the cutting edge after initial sharpening with #400, or after the optional #700 step. It is also useful for occasional touch-ups when ceramic maintenance alone is not enough.

Refreshes an established edge without automatically returning to the coarser discs.
A standard-kit grit
HONE's second standard diamond grit, used after #400 and before ceramic finishing.
From a sharpened bevel to a finer edge.
Initial sharpening establishes the bevel; #1000 refines it. This finer diamond stage helps produce a cleaner working edge without the more aggressive material removal of #200 or #400.
Maintain the edge you have already created.
Once the bevel is established, you do not need to restart with coarse discs every time. Use #1000 when the edge needs diamond refinement, then finish with #3000 ceramic. #2000 is an optional finer diamond step between them.

Refine, then finish.
Start with an established edge
Follow #400 or #700 after initial sharpening. For a lightly dulled edge, #1000 may be the appropriate starting point.
Use light finishing passes
Keep the angle consistent and follow HONE's alternating-pass guidance to refine the cutting edge.
Choose your finish
Finish with #3000 ceramic when available, adding #2000 first if you want a finer diamond progression. #1000 can serve as the finishing stage if ceramic is not available.
