The #200 Diamond Disc is the coarse starting point for a very dull edge, minor edge damage, or intentional reshaping to a new sharpening angle. It removes metal more aggressively than HONE's finer diamond grits, preparing the bevel for further sharpening.

Follow with #400 and finer grits. #200 is a restoration stage, not a finishing disc.
Use it when the edge needs a reset.
Coarse diamond abrasion removes material to rebuild the cutting edge. Choose #200 when substantial sharpening is needed; skip it when your knife only needs light maintenance. Deep chips or serious blade damage may require professional repair.

After the edge has been re-established, use #400 to refine the coarse scratch pattern, then move to #1000, with #700 as an optional intermediate step. Finish with finer discs as needed. Do not use every grit automatically.

Assess the edge
Reserve #200 for very dull or damaged edges, or intentional reprofiling. Keep the existing angle unless you mean to change it.
Re-establish the bevel
Use light, controlled passes at a consistent angle. Stop coarse work once the necessary reshaping is complete to avoid removing excess metal.
Move to #400
Refine the coarse marks with #400 before progressing to the finer sharpening and finishing stages.
